Summary
In one line: A "God Mode" travel vlog in Egypt — "the city of exile": the Sultan Hassan mosque, a camel ride at the Giza pyramids, the Sphinx, then the Cave Church of St. Simon the Tanner in Cairo's "Garbage City."
Key moments
- Awed by ancient architecture — "we don't build things like that anymore" — he turns the trip into a kind of pilgrimage.
- In the rock-hewn Coptic church he reads the reliefs (ascension, Pentecost, Moses, feeding the 5,000, Calvary) and the tomb of Father Simaan, who served the garbage collectors for 50 years (1974–2024 jubilee; died 2023) and, the guide says, cast out demons. "God loves the place of the rejected."
- Guide Zakari tells the 10th-century story of St. Simon the Tanner — who plucked out his eye to keep Matthew 5:29 literally — moving the Mokattam mountain after Pope Abraham and the faithful fasted three days (Matthew 17:20).
- "Denominationalism has destroyed the church… if Christ is exalted, doctrines mean nothing." He kneels to pray at the altar: "I felt God."

It's just amazing history and it and um I still can't I'm I'm really trying to understand why everybody wanted to be here. What is so special about uh this place is what is baffling. Look at that. It's interesting. That looks like a like a cross almost. Wow.
music
This is phenomenal. I mean, there's no words to describe how great and amazing this is. This is really something beyond. foreign.
music
Wow. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Wow.
This is crazy. Yeah, this this is so grand and it's so amazing. And uh it's one of those things that you know, you read it in scripture and then you see it in real life and you realize that it's a whole different thing, man. I have no words. I mean, this these rocks are tons and tons and they came from so far. How did they get them here? How did they build? All this is mysteries. All these are mysteries.

Let's go. Come on horse now and I give you camel later. Okay. Okay.
So, we on this camels now. We're about to hit this tour in a second. And um say is is is our tour guide. I met him the last time I was here. So, he's going to hook us up. It's going to be a nice one. He's so knowledgeable about everything. So, it's going to be amazing.
music
Listen, I I rather ride a camel. He He Yeah, he made he made me speed up with him. Uhhuh. Yeah. With the horse. We we we did a little run.
I'll tell you this. What's that? I I I was like, "Yeah, we were better off on the on the horses." Oh, no. On the camel. On the camel.
music
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, thank you. Listen, the ride is crazy. Camels, you know, it's it's almost a rough sea motion. Not as smooth, but better than the horse, I'll tell you that much. Better than the horse. The horse was a little more eh. But uh but the ride with the with the camels is better. This is just so amazing. So, the pyramids are like probably 7,000 years old. I think that's what he said, right? 7,000 7,000 years ago. 7,000 years. 7,000 years. That's That's a long time.
So, you think about it. 7,000 years ago and it's still standing. We don't build the things the same. You know, things are not built the same no more. No, not at all. And just think about like how how um think about how whoever was building them, right? Because I know the the farthest one is the first one, then this is the second one. This is the third one. It's a father, son, and grandson.
Father, son, grandson. Yes. Father, son, grandson. Yeah. And what about the small ones? What were those family? Okay. Family. Okay. We have small family. Okay. Those are my same.
Wow. This is kind of cool. This This is good. Yeah. We We're headed to the Sphinx right now and uh more to see. But God don't like me, man. Like God don't like me, man. You see the story when I came over. What's up? It's just It's just like, bro, you you you too much, man.

The ancient world, man. The mysteries of the ancient world cannot be described and cannot be told. It's incredible.
Super super amazing. I'm excited to see some more. We're going to go out there and look at the swings from a distance. And then we have one more stop that we actually have two stops that we have to go to. But uh hang around and you'll see some more. This is amazing. This is incredible placement of like even from the other side how the pyramids look.
Yeah. You know, and then from this side you can see the space between, but when you're looking from the other side, they're all, you know what I mean? Yeah. It's so symmetrical in the way they thought out this whole thing and then building this right here. There may be some significance to it, too. Oh, yeah. There definitely is. So, we just looked at the Sphinx and um how beautiful this spot is and just seeing how symmetrical everything is and um yeah, now we are on to the next venue. Let's go by by English, huh? Yeah. Yeah. Okay.

guys. All right, guys. We are here in Cairo and um it's such an amazing place to be in because there's just so much history everywhere. And uh I I turned this trip into a pilgrimage kind of thing because it's it's really amazing to behold all the historic facts and all the amazing things that have happened here from um from the pharaohs um to even now and just looking at the old Cairo, the new Cairo and and all the amazing things that I want to show you.
Like if you look to the left on this side, this is considered like the old Cairo. But what really intrigued me was the walls, right? You can see the you can see the the buildings obviously they they are old, but the wall is much older than everything that is in there. And this wall is about I was I was told it's about a little over 700 years old. That's that's a long time. 700 years is is just fascinating how the ancient world could build things that last and and our modern world can barely keep anything standing. So if you look over there that's called the citadel and u there's a beautiful Orthodox church there. It's called the what is the name of the church? I think it's wait I'll remember the the church is literally curved in a stone. It's a whole rock that is a whole church. which I'll remember and I'm sure we're going to write the name down there. But it was so beautiful because it's a bunch of Christians live there. Um it's really amazing when you go there you feel like you're in a time machine. It's just everything is um it's just vintage and old and you can see the pain and the suffering of people to to create such a such a beautiful beautiful place. I mean, there's no words to really put to this.
Uh, I don't even know what words we can use to make you really feel what it feels like to be there. So, we are in a place called Trash City. I don't know why it's called trash city, but definitely there's a collection of a lot of uh trash here.
Um, some people make a living from that here. Actually, a lot of people. But it's incredible that one of the most beautiful um churches I've ever seen actually is here. And this whole church was carved out of a rock. It's called cave church I believe. And um it's an uh Orthodox church. And I love the depiction of we will see the son of man coming with the cloud with great power. Mark 12:26, you can see Jesus ascending.
While he was blessing them, he lifted up and he was taken up into heaven. Uh you can see um the descending of the Holy Ghost coming there. You can see Moses and the Ten Commandments. It's so incredible. There you can see Jesus feeding the 5,000 people. And over there we can see Calvary. What a what an amazing place to be. And uh I can't wait. There's so much art on the walls. You can see the nativity story. You can feel God's presence here.
And it's strange because uh God always like he God loves the place of the rejected or the ones that are looked down upon. It's it's incredible to behold.
I'm just reading his story here. It says, "And those who are wise shall shine like the brightest stars, brightest uh and those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above. And those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever." Daniel 12:3. This holy body belongs to the blessed one, Reverend Father Saman Ibraim Mosa, founder, angel, and good shepherd of St.
Simon Tenner Monastery, Moatam, Cairo, Egypt. Served the Lord faithfully between the beloved garbage collection for 50 years. Wow. born at the 5th born at the 5th December 1941 was anointed as priest at 14th January 1978 in the era of HH Pope Chenadua 70 117 I don't know what that means was promoted as a reverend high priest at at the 5th of July 1994 went to be with the Lord forever at the 11th October 2023. Wow. Father Saman served faithfully.
Amen. This is what life is about. Things like this move me and they make me want to commit myself even more to God. 50 years of faithfully serving and helping people in a place that people are forsaken. And you can see why. Uh this is interesting. You can see why. Look at all the people that came to his funeral. This is a sign. This is a sign of his impact. 2023. That's That's a sign of impact. This is a sign of impact. This is powerful. So, we're going into the monastery.
Wow. The presence of God here is phenomenal. And you can feel the you can feel the purity of of the people who invested in themsel in in accomplishing this great work. I'm just impacted by how long it took um the faithful man of God to serve his people. 50 years is a long time. 50 years is a is a long time to dedicate your life to people just to help them, you know. It's incredible. It's an amazing amazing opportunity to be here and I can't wait to go inside and pray a little bit.
music
So, I'm I'm looking at all the paintings and I'm seeing other fathers and priests and um I can also see pictures of the church fathers at the top.
It's it's really it's a very it's a very powerful place. I'm curious. There's a father back there that has one eye that is depicted around. I'm curious to find out who that is and some of the miraculous things that have happened here. I I want to I want to find out and just see how God moved. You know, one thing that has destroyed the church is the denomination thing whereby people demonize other denomination.
And the clear truth is that um if the Lord God is exalted, if Christ is the Lord, the way, the truth, and the life, then doctrines mean nothing because that's what really matters the most.
Um I'm just in awe. And this man walked in the supernatural power of God. This man understood the power of God. I'm just in in in awe of of the beauty of the place and the presence.
Um I can feel in this
music
place it's quite powerful.
I wonder who this guy is with the one eye. I've seen a lot of him. Maybe this is his tomb. I don't know. Looks like it, right? Yeah. I want to know who this guy is with one eye. Yeah.
How are you? I'm doing amazing. I have a few questions for you if it's okay. Okay. Question for you. Who is the man? Who is the man with the one eye? Okay. This one is St. Simon, the saint of this monastery. Okay. This one moved the mountain by God's hands on uh in the 10th century. Wait, what do you mean move the mountain? Uh we have a verse in the Bible says if you have little faith, yeah, you can say like this mountain move from here to there and yeah. So they ask it at that time uh the Bob Abraham, he was the B of the Coptic church to fulfill the verse or there is something wrong with the Bible. So Abra asked from the Egypt at the time he was a khalif for 3 days to pray and fast and he gathered all the Christian people told them that we're in a big trouble we need to move a mountain so we all have to pray and fast for 3 days. Mhm. He kept praying and on the third day he stayed in the hanging church. Virgin Mary appeared to him. This one is for Virgin Mary in the middle. Okay. Simon on the right, Bob Abraham on the left.
Okay. So Virgin Mary told Abraham that the one who will move the mountain is St. Simon the tunnel. Wow. The one who is holding the jug in his hand with just one eye. Okay. He used to to hold the the the jug as he used to help the elder people by giving them water every day in the morning. Okay. And we had just one eye as one day a lady came to him and she wanted to seduce him. He remembered a verse in the Bible says if your right eye could she pluck it out. Yeah. He fulfilled the verse as it is. Oh wow. He was very simple with a a pure heart. He wanted to fulfill the commandments as it is. So he pluck his eye out. That's why he had just one eye. Wow. When Bob Abraham found him and he listened to his story, they all went in front of the mountain. We have an icon there, we have Bob Abraham, St. Simon, the rest of the Christian people. Then the Khalif, Jewish and the Muslim people. The Christian people be began to say, it's a Greek word means Lord have mercy. And while they were praying, the mountain was moved and they could see the sun under the mountain. Wow. This miracle happened in the 10th century on the hands of Sai literally moved the mountain. Yes. Wow. And we when we was about to build this church uh they found small caves and they asked okay we are going to make those caves bigger. So who is the one who moved this mountain? He is St. Simon. Okay we are going to name this monasi after his name. Wow this is nice. That's why we named the whole after simon name. Thank you. You asked for the most important thing inside the church here. Oh thank you. Thank you.
No, I and and when uh father San the one who moved the mountain or the or the one who served here first who served here for 50 years. Yeah. He is father Sam the priest who came here first to establish the church. He stayed with the people about 50 years serving them and established the monastery for them.
Okay. He passed away about 1 year and I think 6 months. Yeah. I saw 2023 I believe towards the end. Yeah. Yeah. He passed away 2023. Yes, we have here this this date 50 years from 1974. Wow. To 2024 was the celebration of the fifth year. So question for you. Did uh father Saman perform miracles too? Yes. Yes.
Right. Did did uh father s now he will be taller than me many times. Did father Saman perform miracles too?
Yeah. They told us that he used to cast out demons. He used to cast out demons. Yeah. Wow. by by the god by the spirit of God. Yes. Sure. Sure. Yes. Yes. And if if you have faith, many miracles will happen in your life. Yes. Not just cast out demons or to heal someone or just to change. Yeah. To change the biggest mira.
Yeah. Yeah. That's the biggest miracle impact of people's souls. Yes, you're right. Yes. We have a saint St. Bus says that when you let someone know about God, you you like you heal someone or you save someone from his death. Wow. Yes. Wow. It's the core principle of our church. Yes. Yeah. The cor church. Yeah. No, that's amazing. Yes. That's amazing.
And and I have one final question for you. Is it okay for me to kneel and pray before the altar? Is that okay? Sure. Yeah. Just you pray by your way. Yes. But do not change the the cas or church. You pray in a quiet a quiet time, a quiet place. Just kneel and pray to God. God can listen your voice even you don't speak. Speak. Yes. That's true. Very true. Yeah. Thank you so much. It was amazing with you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. You have blessed me. I'm I'm so blessed. Thank you so What's your name again? Zakari. Zakari. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Have a nice time. Thank you. I'm going to pray and we can run.
