Why Your Faith Isn't Working: The Spoken vs Visual Secret
Watch on YouTube ↗ Read transcript ↓
Summary
In one line: Faith has two dimensions — spoken faith (calling things that are not as though they were) and visual faith (an action God sees, not people) — and it's the visual one that makes God act.
Key insights
- "Jesus saw their faith" (Mark 2:5) — faith is something seen.
- Step 1: speak the impossible (Romans 4:17, Hebrews 11:1).
- Step 2: a faith God can see. Faith is a verb. But Satan distorts this into showing off ("I'm stepping out in faith!"). Visual faith is meant to catch God's attention, not your neighbour's — your neighbour should think you've lost your marbles. "When men can't see it, God is in the front row. When you gather men to watch, God loses interest."
- "Your Father who sees in secret" (Matthew 6:3-6) isn't about hiding good works — it's about who you do it for. God compares what your lips say with what He sees within you, and after you pray, He watches for faith in order to act.
- Jairus's daughter (Mark 5:35-43): Jesus told the father privately, "She is asleep." The father's visual faith was to throw out the mourners — "when there is a funeral, nobody resurrects." The more they cried, the more dead she was.
- The fig tree (Mark 11:12-14, Mark 11:20-21): Jesus spoke once and walked away; the disciples were amazed the next day — to Jesus it wasn't news.
- "We don't prove people with formulas, we prove them with results. Let them laugh today — tomorrow you'll employ them."

And Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee."
There are two dimensions of faith that you need to master in order for you to see results.
There is a spoken faith.
And there is visual faith.
There is spoken faith.
And there is visual faith.
When God is dealing with somebody who is ready to activate faith, the Bible says, "We call those things that are not as if they were." Now, faith is the substance of the things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
[clears throat]
The first step of faith is always speaking the impossible.
[applause and cheering]
I will say it one more time. The first aspect of faith is speaking the impossible.
The second aspect of faith is A FAITH THAT GOD can see. Not a faith that is spoken.
Now, when people hear this now, people now begin now Satan's infiltration. Remember I said deception. People begin to say, "I just acted on faith."
I just acted hoping I balance, I don't fall.
I'm just hoping on faith. I am standing on faith. Notice, they are doing things because deep inside them they know that faith has a visual aspect because faith is a verb. It always has to do with an action.
So deep within everyone, you know that there is an aspect of faith that requires me to act and not just to speak. But the issue is the visual faith is not meant to be recognized by men.
It is supposed to be recognized by God.
[cheering]
I feel like the revelation is getting on some people and some people are not catching it.
Visual faith is supposed to capture God's attention, not your neighbor's attention.
On the contrary, your neighbor is supposed to look at you and think you have absolutely lost your marbles.
[cheering]
Something is wrong with you.
BECAUSE WHEN MEN CANNOT SEE SOMETHING, that means God is front row watching something.
BUT WHEN YOU GATHER MEN TO WATCH SOMETHING, IT means God is no longer interested in whatever you're showing.
Sit for 2 seconds. We're going somewhere. So, when you go to Matthew chapter 6, when Jesus is teaching his disciples to pray, he's telling them how to be secretive.
When you pray, let your father who sees in secret.
Notice, how can you see in secret? Because seeing is just seeing.
I want you to think.
When you give, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. But, let your father who sees in secret see what you have given. Wait, but when I'm giving, everybody can see what I am giving. So, when people hear this, they think God is telling you not to advertise good works. No, that's not what he's saying.
Who are you doing it for? And for what reason are you doing it?
I want you to think about it. Meaning, God is watching in order to respond. Meaning, God doesn't respond to what you say. After you pray, God is watching to see faith so that he can act. Let me tell you a secret about God. God is very visual.
That is why the Bible says he searches the hearts, the intent. Meaning, God is so visual, he's looking at what your lips are saying, and he compares it to what he can see within you. Because faith is not about an external expression, it's about a secret expression.
A secret expression. Meaning God is looking at something that other people cannot see. Only he should be the only one that sees it. Meaning I could do something in the open and you will not know, nor see it, but God will look and say, "My son."
So, how does a visual faith work? Because visual faith makes God becomes He makes God become reactive. Meaning God, after you have spoken faith, God is waiting for you to act so that he can act with you, because faith has connected. An example, Jesus, they come to him, they say, "A young girl has died."
And they pronounced the girl dead. They said, "Don't bother the master. The young damsel is dead." Jesus turns to the father, he says, "Don't worry, she's asleep." Notice what Jesus communicated, he did not communicate it publicly. He didn't say, "DON'T WORRY! THE YOUNG GIRL IS ASLEEP." HE turned to the father and said, "Don't worry about it, she's asleep. I'm coming."
The the father was like, "Okay." So, Jesus goes with them. So, everybody else is thinking Jesus is coming to attend a funeral.
But Jesus already told the father that he's coming to wake the girl up.
So, the only way the father's faith now needs to respond is by showing Jesus is not going to a funeral, they are going to wake his daughter up. So, when Jesus got to the house he found people mourning. So, he got angry. He said, "Yo, tell everyone to get out because they are going against what I told you.
Throw them all out." The man did not waste any minute, kicked everybody out. Then Jesus went to the room, sat next to the girl, said, "Young girl, wake up." The young girl woke up. Notice what happened here. The father visually acted out that the daughter is asleep and not dead.
So, even Jesus coming to the house if they kept on crying, the daughter would have never woken up.
[cheering]
The more they cried, the more dead she was. So, it wasn't about them stopping to cry. It was that if she's going to rise up, there can be no funeral. Because when there is a funeral, nobody resurrects.
[cheering]
applause
I am trying to make you understand how visual faith looks BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT MAKES GOD ACT.
SO, Jesus did not want to raise the girl and prove them wrong.
Because faith doesn't work that way. After the fact, you will know that you are wrong. Not when the miracle is coming to pass.
We don't prove people with formulas. We prove them by results.
It's okay for them laugh at you today, but tomorrow you will employ them.
Amen.
Tomorrow you will lend them.
Amen.
THEN THEY WILL UNDERSTAND WHO WAS REALLY working and who wasn't.
Am I Am I communicating to somebody?
[cheering]
Jesus is passing by. He sees a tree. He tries to go and get a fruit and there was no fruit on the tree. Jesus starts talking to the tree and says, "The Bible says, and Jesus answered the tree, no one will ever eat of you from this day." And Jesus walked away. So, his disciples are watching and they're like Okay.
24 hours later they are passing by the same place. The disciples look at the tree. They are the ones telling Jesus, "Lord, THAT TREE YOU CURSED." NOTICE Jesus wasn't thinking about it. Because Jesus went in faith to find a fruit. There was no fruit. He responded with visual faith. "Nobody will eat from you." and walked away. And the next day the tree died. It is the people who are around that were like, "Can you believe the tree you cursed has died?" To Jesus it wasn't news. It was obvious.
