God's Truth: Your Calling Changes, Your Purpose Remains
Watch on YouTube ↗ Read transcript ↓
Summary
In one line: "Don't be married to your calling — be married to your purpose": callings change with seasons, purpose doesn't.
Key points
- Jesus was a carpenter before a minister. His purpose: fulfil the law and prophets — even changing commandments ("it was said… but I say" — Matthew 5:43-44) — and seek the lost.
- Peter stayed a fisherman and businessman — Jesus said "fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19) but never stop fishing; after the resurrection Peter still went fishing (John 21:3-17); his house in Capernaum "even had tile."
- As a mentor he never pushes people faster than God's process — "I did that before; it didn't work out."
- Stop measuring the future by what used to be — "we like where we're comfortable, but God loves where we are better."

Don't be married to your calling. Be married to your purpose.
Amen.
Let me explain this for a second. And I have a teaching on this online. Many of you think your calling is your ministry. No, your purpose is
calling changes based on times. But the purpose doesn't.
In the beginning, Jesus was a carpenter.
Then after being a carpenter, he became a minister. But he could not become who he was supposed to be without first being a carpenter. It was part of his calling in that time.
Yeah.
This is why some of you want the old business to work. No, it was going to work for that season,
not for what is your purp, why did God create me? What is the end goal? If you don't have an end goal, you will never know what your purpose is. I just want to preach. Why? I want to act. Why? I want to have a business. Why? What's What's the end goal?
Because your calling will be modified according to your time.
You see, they looked at Jesus and says, "You are friend of the publican, friend of the drunkards." But Jesus's purpose was to come and save the lost. He told them, "Guys, I didn't come for you.
I came for them. Amen.
So they were confused, huh?
No, you came for us. No, no, no. You guys are good. I came for the lost
house of Israel, not you guys. You guys have the rabbis. You guys already know. I came for those who are far from me. I came to bring them unto myself. So Jesus's ministry was twofold. Number one was to fulfill the law and the prophets. And what people don't understand is that Jesus actually changed the commandments. Do you do you know that? You guys didn't know that he fulfilled it. He changed it. He said, "It has been said unto you, love those who love you, but I say unto you." He's changing the law. He's He's changing it. Saying, "I say unto you, they said, do this, but I say unto you."
He's changing the law. Moses receives the ten commandments on the mountain. He gives someone on the mount changing everything. So number one was to fulfill the law and the prophets.
Number two was to go for the lost for you and me. Not just the house of Israel, for the lost. So you need to know your purpose so that if your calling changes, you still measure it if it tracks with where you're going.
Amen. I was speaking to two sons, a husband and a wife, a son and and daughter today when I was on my way and I was explaining to them. I was like, you guys have been asking me for advice. They was like, why aren't you communicating with us? I said, I am giving you time. One thing I learned is never to push somebody into what God has not yet permitted them to do.
You create a problem. So, I give people time. It's not that I don't see people. I see everyone. If God brought you close enough, I 100% see you. I wait for God to finish his process in you. I don't want to interfere with God anymore.
I have done that. It didn't work out so well.
Amen.
Yeah, I did that. Some of them can even stand and say, "We had platforms before this. You look, you're like, it's crazy. We used to do this. We used to do this. I used to teach him this." Ah. Okay.
But you can always measure where are the fruits.
Why is it not working right now?
I will never ever in my life move somebody faster than what God has accorded them as grace. I am patient. So I was explaining to them, do you notice I've never told you don't stop this? Do you notice I've never told you not to stop that? They're like, yeah, we we've always wondered that. I said because I can't rush you be beyond the process of God where he shows you you don't need those things anymore.
If I make you stop and things don't work out, you will go back.
But if I allow God to take it out of you as I pray for you, as I counsel you naturally, no matter what happens, you're not going to look back anymore.
You'll be done with what used to be.
Calling changes, purpose doesn't.
Amen.
Good.
Peter was a fisherman. Jesus told him, "I will make you fisher of what?" Men. Jesus never told him, "Stop fishing." In fact, you see, even after Jesus's death and resurrection, Peter still owned his boats.
You see him telling his brothers, "Let's go and fish," they go fishing and Jesus appears in the shore. And he notices Jesus. He dives in and swims to the shore. And Jesus said, "Bring the fish you caught." And he cooked. And then he asked him, "Peter, do you love me?" He never told him, "Stop fishing." Peter was still a businessman.
Still a businessman. In fact, if you go to Israel and you see where Peter's house was, Peter had one of the biggest homes in his village. It even had tile. If you know what tile was in those days, you know my guy was doing very, very well. Amen.
But his calling started with him being a fisherman. If he never was catching fish, he would have never met Jesus.
That was where he met Jesus and his purpose was revealed. And God used the same strategy he used with him. You know how you catch fish, you need bait, you need to do this. I am making you that for men. Calling can change. Purpose never changes.
Amen.
Just because you started with this business doesn't mean you will continue with that business. You may have to make other businesses based on the times.
That business may go dry for a second, but then there's a time that it will be revitalized because it's his season again. Calling can change. Purpose doesn't. Amen.
This is why many of you your memory is still pushing you to what used to be because you cannot receive what is.
You can't receive it because you are so married to what produced millions of hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands that you're like that is what I that is my thing. No, that is not your thing. Your purpose.
Amen. And anything that is built within purpose will never expire.
Amen.
God is about to do a new thing in you. The question is this.
Have you made room to receive that? Or are you still measuring your future based on what used to be?
Are you still measuring it with what used to be? Man, life used to be like that. Why can't it be better? Why does he have to be just like that? It means you're married to an outcome that you can control. Oh, that hit you, huh? I just saw going, "Oh, now it's true. It's all of us are like that. We like where we are comfortable,
but God loves where we are better."
Amen.
